Notes from the Author

This is a work of RPG fan fiction, based on the MMORPG game Myst Online: Uru Live, created by Cyan Worlds, Inc. The game, pulled from the publisher Game Tap's line up in April of 2008, has refused to die. The game and Cyan have a very loyal fan base. The fans have been grouping together for a long time - two years or longer - to create more worlds for Cyan's game and more storylines.

The forum has to be checked every so often while we wait for the open source code to come out and the cavern can be assessed again.

Posting our own exploration stories can be a good way to keep the site active. For starters, I'll post my M'nine chapters on its own thread in characters and ages. I'll post at the rate of one per week or one every two weeks and that will help keep us active for a little while.

Let admin or Elpis know if you need an area made for your story too.

While the Friends of the Fissure has been very private while we were getting our "act together" time has caught us up and now we do not have the leisure to create our stories with the cavern as part of our stage. I have opened the forum to all who wish to participate. We have a viable age idea that can be put into practice with the tools and talents we have available -- even without MOUL.

I invite all who are interested to participate in this effort. Maybe we can not save MOUL, but in ...

Elpis' research suggests that the area around the Cleft is most likely inhabited by Apache and Hopi, rather than Navajo. I have therefore started making some plot adjustments:

The Navajo in the area are there because of La Casa's days as an Indian school run by the government. I have rewritten the WNDN interviews and will inject elsewhere that the Navajo are there because their children were "stolen" from their rez and placed in the school at La Casa. The parents followed in ...

Because of technical and time limitation adding new content is a slow process. One aspect that is easy to expand are the visions that come via D'ni herbal preparations. These are animated gif files usually involving about 5-9 images. The more images the less we can do with spiffy transitions, but special effects can be included in the images themselves. So far each vision has been based around a theme -- either an age or a concept. We can also incorporate hints to future ages that are in ...

I've created another option for people to help out on with M'nine. Elpis has discovered what they call a 'treasure room' in one house of M'nine. Protected in a container were various D'ni books, such as a copy of the Watcher's Prophecies and the King's Journals, along with a few family histories and text books that I'm using within the M'nine storyline.

Unprotected from the damage caused by weather over time due to a damaged roof is a wall full of shelves containing many D'ni literature ...

http://www.spokesmanreview.com/blogs/txt/archive/?postID=6114

As we keep an eye on how Cyan brings the game back online, our place will stay the same within the game's storyline. But it'll be interesting to see what kind of environment comes about as they bring in more player created content and how we can fit in there.

Also to watch them work out all the bugs with utilizing the created content while we work on ours. LOL

But we are setting up for Phase 2, in which we reveal dynamic ages (currently awaiting our skills to evolve to make such things). We have left hints here and there that the ladies at La Casa were able to take some books from the Cavern before Zandi and later the DRC controlled access to the Cavern. August 1, 2008 (tentative date for day one)

Kelsey has agreed to assist me in exploring M'nine. After spending a few weeks studying the descriptive books, five in all, kept by the Kalamank family, we linked to the Age yesterday.

As I suspected, M'nine has been deserted for some time. Perhaps since before the Great Fall. Kelsey has returned to LaCasa to gather supplies and to bring through a few volunteers willing to work excavation. ...

Edited with new material added on 2 February

This is the history of the Order of the Friends of the Fissure as I know it. Some of what I write I learned from my long association with Margaret Donnelly (better known as KoHama niD’ni), but the rest is from my own experience. I will start with the history that precedes my arrival in the area.

The story of the FoF Order begins with Richard Donnelly, born 1907 in Philadelphia, PA. At the age of 20 he started his higher education at the University ...

(as told by elpis)

Sophrosyne is a member of FoF who few people know, and fewer yet will know. I can't tell you where she's from. She will only say, "On the journey, it only matters where you're going. Where you have been is in the past."

When asked about her family, she only says, "D'ni and the Least are my family."

She has very little to say on anything. Most of the time she won't speak at all. I feel as if I'm her closest friend, and she rarely speaks to ...

Hi! My full name is Elpis Danae Frietag.

My namesake is the spirit of hope who clung to the inside of Pandora's Box when it was opened, refusing to leave mankind.

In that same spirit, I remain in the cavern and other ages, forever remembering the words of Yeesha and Yahvo as an inspiration of hope that all will not be lost.

There is destruction coming. Yeesha made that clear in her first speech to us at the cleft. But she gave us words of hope; we will find what we're looking for ...

Thorne's personality is that he's a free spirit, yet he's a real man in that he loves heavy lifting type of work. Loves working with his hands. Not muscular in the way of working out, but has strong solid muscles because of hard work.

Strong healthy constitution. Rarely gets even a sniffle. A nature man. A man who believes in healthy living. And he's a vegetarian. Not strict, because he'll eat eggs and cheese, but avoids meats. He loves ...

For those who are working on La Casa and any subsequent ages keep in mind that we must treat Cyan and its creations with respect. Nothing we do must in anyway defame or denigrate Cyan or Cyan worlds. That said, we must respect canonically established plot points, nor may our fan-based story directly contradict Cyan's storyline. We may not use any Cyan created character in our story, except ...

KoHama is someone with whom there is very little interaction. She has suffered a lot of emotional damage over the years -- losing her parents while still young, watching the world change from the 1960s through the 1990s, ...

Naturally enough in URU no one wants to be named some ordinary modern "Susie May Jones." And yet for the La Casa story, that is what many of us would have been called at some point in life.

When planning out your character, consider what name was given at birth. Don't worry. You don't have to use it, just have it ready should we need to produce the list of who we all once were. After her father died in 1967 Margaret Linnea Donnelly was "adopted" by Joseph and Marie Calling Bird who gave ...

As described by Okaasan February 5, 2008:

Quote:Based on the text and timelines posted elsewhere on this forum we will craft a non-linear telling of the FoF story. This can be done in a static, solo-player web-accessible way by using image maps -- graphics with embedded links that lead to other graphics or to text.

My html skills are a bit rusty but I understand the basics. We may need to find an uber-geek to smooth the rough edges.

To give you an idea of the vision so far:

If you have been by the webpage lately you will see that I have made a number of additions. I find that I can manage some of the artwork by using digital photos and screen captures, then playing with them in Paint Shop Pro. What I can NOT do is create an entire scene. I can not make the house, the rooms, the gardens nor ...

There are many in the Cavern community who feel lost amid a cacophony of voices, calling each to join this bevin or that guild. The new guilds created by the DRC are struggling to find their way. Within each guild there is a chance to demonstrate ...

I like the fissure graphic above ... if it was somehow incorporated with a pic of Yeesha that would be great. I like how Myss Terrie's Bevin full banner is built. That same set up might work.
The above is a good size for the forum header: 525X150

Another size or version for signatures and banner link use would be great too.
